What's New

Building Code Changes

City Council has approved new building codes that will become effective January 1, 2009.  Residential and commercial projects that are submitted prior to April 1, 2009 may be designed using the 2003 International Codes or 2006 International Codes.  Strict adherence to the listed codes shall be effective April 1, 2009. For more information, visit the Permiting and Inspections page.

University Avenue Corridor - Review and update of plan and zoning

Planning Staff hosted a series of public meetings in November and December 2008 to gather input on what changes should be made to the University Avenue Corridor Plan and Overlay Ordinance. Staff is now in the process of reviewing the information received and creating a first draft of revisions. We expect to present the draft at the next round of public meetings in Winter 2009.

For more information on the University Avenue Corridor, click here.

Alameda Depot Neighborhood Plan

Planning staff has worked with leaders of the Alameda Depot Civic Association and Alameda Depot Neighborhood Organization to finalize changes to the DRAFT Alameda Depot Neighborhood Plan. The preceeding link contains the latest changes to which the neighborhood representatives agreed in principle. The most significant change was to combine Planning Areas 3, 7 and 8, and retain the current allowed list of future land uses in these areas. To obtain a hard copies of the changes, please call 528-3209.

A hearing before the Planning and Zoning Commission will be scheduled once staff receives letters of support from both neighborhood groups. The date of the hearing will be posted here, and letters will be sent to property owners in the neighborhood. Staff is accepting written comments on the latest draft prior to the hearing via e-mail to cmccall@las-cruces.org or by hand delivery to Carol McCall at 575 S Alameda Blvd.
